30 down and an infinite number more to go! That’s right, last week our 30th Treasure Tuesday session went down and we couldn’t be more stoked about it. Over the past few months there have been some seriously epic times, laughs, and days spent lending Mother Nature and our local community a helping hand. So whether you’ve only joined us once or have been along for the ride every single week. We’d like to thank everyone who has contributed in helping shape Treasure Tuesdays into what it is today.
To celebrate this very special Treasure Tuesdays session, we knew we had to keep it old school and head back to where it all began. So after The Crew rallied together we once again found ourselves stepping off the pavement and digging our feet into the warm sand at 56th street. Even though the weather was a bit chilly and there was a light wind blowin’, it still felt great to be outside tidying up the shores of Newport and soaking up a few cosmic rays in the process. The spirits were high and the anticipation began to build as this extra-special Treasure Tuesdays beach clean up got underway.
While perusing the sand on “the search”, it was somewhat alarming to see how abundant the sunken treasures were going to be for the day. After our time spent tidying up Huntington Beach the Tuesday before, we thought there might be a slight shortage of treasure to be collected, but we were definitely wrong. Once again, objects ranging in all shapes and sizes were wrangled from the sand then re-deposited into their new homes (aka our plastic bags). The usual suspects- things like straws, tennis balls, and water bottles were present on this Tuesday as well as a few new finds. One thing we definitely haven’t seen before this time was the large chunk of car tire that was just hanging around on the beach. Besides looking completely out of place, it left us begging the question of exactly how it got there… Another first-time find was the dress shoe sole that had conveniently tucked itself into the 40th street jetty. After a bit of persuasion, it finally decided to come loose and come to terms with its new home inside the bag.
Before we knew it, our bags had been stuffed to the brim with sunken treasure and we were circling back towards 56th street. As we trekked through the sand, The Crew did a bit of reminiscing about things that had happened and all the random items that had been found during past Treasure Tuesdays. It felt good knowing that Treasure Tuesdays has been rockin’ for the better portion of a year now, and things won’t be slowing down one bit. We think its safe to say that we’re making Mother Nature and our local community proud.
Again, we’d like to say THANK YOU to EVERYONE who has helped pave the road for Treasure Tuesdays, and we hope you can join us for a TT session some time in the near future.
