Here’s the newest edition of our Weekly Feature Series, being served to you straight from the kitchen of Harry’s Deli.
Harry’s Deli is right around the corner from the Ark Collective headquarters and has become one of our “go to” spots to grab a bite for lunch. The friendly atmosphere, awesome customer service, and homemade ingredients, are just a few of the many reasons that keep us coming back.
In between chatting with his customers and creating some seriously tasty eats: founder/owner/all around good guy Harry Kho- did a little Q & A session with us:
Name- Harry Kho
Place of Residence- Mission Viejo
Current Jam- Love them all, it’s too hard to pick just one!
Favorite Food- Mexican
Ark: So how long has Harry’s Deli been in business?
Harry: We’ve been open since February 1st of this year.
Ark: Congrats on that. How old were you when you first started enjoying cooking?
Harry: I don’t know exactly when, but it’s been since at least 3rd grade.
Ark: When you’re cruisin’ in the kitchen, what would you say is your “go to” ingredient?
Harry: Salt. But proper seasoning is key to all types of food. You have to get the seasoning right.
Ark: How would you describe yourself in less than 5 words?
Harry: Eccentric, goofy, simpleton…
Ark: What are some other hobbies you’re into besides creating masterpieces at Harry’s Deli?
Harry: Motorcycling, fishing and shooting. I had a Jixer 750 (motorcycle) that I used to just ride around on all the time. But when I got married and opened this place I had to stop riding it.
Ark: What’s your absolute favorite item on the menu?
Harry: The Pulled Pork.
Ark: Tell us about your most memorable, funny, awkward…(fill in the blank) encounter/ moment you have had since Harry’s has opened?
Harry: One time, I gave a felon a pair of scissors. The guy showed up and asked me if he could borrow some scissors so I lent him a pair. He proceeded to cut off his ankle/ tracking bracelet then throw it in the trash and took off. 30-40 seconds later a parole officer showed up asking where the guy had gone then took off in a hurry. When it was all over I just started laughing & came inside to make myself a sandwich.
Ark: That’s pretty wild! Have any last words for us?
Harry: Never cut corners, and never take yourself or your work too seriously.
If you’re ever in the area, make sure to stop by Harry’s Deli and induldge in some of the goodness.
