TT was back in action this week after our South American adventures. As we wrapped up our day at HQ we made our way over to Taft Elementary and were stoked Mike (creator of many of our awesome videos) joined us on his trip back from Chicago.
Upon arrival we were greeted by several students who were excited to see us back in class and were quick to interrogate us over our past few weeks absence, but we assured them it was just a little trip to South America. After some after school calisthenics we jumped into reading proficiency which consisted of the students reading to us in 1 minute periods. The goal of the exercise was to evaluate the students overall reading proficiency and we were glad to see that the Marshmallows were preforming well! Unfortunately, the Marshmallow’s didn’t have much homework on their plate so we were transferred to work with Mr. L’s 3rd grade team, which was where the smiles began. Not sure if you can recall your days in 3rd grade, but it was pretty classic for us when Mr. L asked the students “how many feet were in a yard?”. And every student in the class was sure they knew the answer which ranged from 5 to 300 feet! After a little process of elimination and the help of Mike the students were able solve the question. The same process of elimination served as a frequent method to solving any questions the students we were working with had on their homework. We did our best to teach the youngsters how to solve the questions without constantly guessing, but I guess thats just part of ones learning journey.
Never a dull moment is a saying that usually springs into the back of our head after a TT session at Taft and that definitely rang true for yesterdays.
Till next time.
