We’re stoked to announce that the first Treasure Tuesdays of 2011 started off with a bang! With school back in session, and the Crew ready to lend our helping hands to the community- we headed over to the Someone Cares Soup Kitchen.
When we showed up, the kids warmly welcomed us and the new members of the Crew with smiles, waves, and hellos. Two of our new members, Mike and Hoffy, were asked to help out in the kitchen by preparing food that was going to be served the next day. After they got their Top Chefs on, they joined us to help the students with some tutoring.
It seemed like the teachers wanted to start the new year off right as well- by assigning their students with more challenging homework in the form of complex division, multiplication, and vocabulary. Of course the kids were willing and able to tackle the tasks put in front of them, which is always awesome for us to observe!
When it came time to explain sentence structure to the students, we once again had to enlist in the help of our “trusty 3G resources” (just another reason why we love technology). One of the students was asking Hoffy what a predicate was, and after a quick Google search he was back on track- laughing and confidently giving the student an expert explanation.
During these tutoring sessions it’s always awesome to observe the students’ progression over time. The period in a session which we “sign them off” allows us to gauge their weekly progress (after the students have completed their assignments we have to review their work and make sure it was done correctly). Up to this point our new friends are doing great and we are looking forward to continued success.
At the end of the day, our students saluted us with a big THANK YOU!!! Which really got Hoffy, the newest member of the Ark Crew, stoked on Treasure Tuesdays.
Another successful Treasure Tuesdays in the books, and a great way to start off the new year! Check out the photos of our new members Mike and Hoffy helping out:
